A CompanyCam alternative you can actually own
CompanyCam is good software with a pricing model that climbs every time you hire. HomeService.Photos does the same core job. Photos get filed to the job, stamped with date, time and GPS, and turned into reports your customers believe. The difference is you can buy it once, and every plan comes with unlimited users.
Why people start looking
Usually it's the bill. CompanyCam's Crew plan is $129 a month with three seats, and every person after that is $29 a month. Five people is $187. Twelve is $390. Twenty-five is $767. Fifty is $1,492 a month. That is $89,520 over five years. The other half is the tiers. Checklists, auto-generated reports, task assignment, the live map and custom client access don't start until Crew. Unlimited templates and reports, subcontractor access control, room measurement, signatures and auto-translation don't start until Scale at $199 a month plus seats. So the feature you signed up for can end up one upgrade away. If either of those is what's bugging you, you're in the right place. If you just want a cheaper clone of everything CompanyCam does, keep reading anyway. The honest answer is further down.
What HomeService.Photos is
Job-site photo documentation for home-service and trade contractors. You open the job on your phone, then shoot, and every photo carries the date, the time and GPS, staying right there on that job. When the work is done, you hand the customer a branded PDF report or a private share link that expires when you say. It runs on your own server with nobody else's photos on it, and you can buy it outright instead of paying per seat forever.
What the two cost at real crew sizes
CompanyCam, checked 2026-09-06: Core is $63 a month with one seat, Crew is $129 with three, Scale is $199 with three, and every extra seat on any tier is $29 a month. Enterprise for 50-plus seats is quoted individually. The Marketing Suite add-on runs $99 a month, shown discounted to $79. Worked from Crew: 5 people pay $187 a month, 12 pay $390, 25 pay $767, 50 pay $1,492. Five years at fifty people is $89,520. Ours: $5,000 once installed on your own hardware, or $3,500 once deployed into your own cloud account. If you'd rather we host it, that's $99 a month, and $75 for the first three months. It includes 5 TB of storage, then $25 per TB after that. Unlimited users on every plan, never per seat. A fifty-person crew pays the same $99 as a five-person crew, and on the outright plans they pay nothing monthly at all. We are not against subscriptions. Plenty of our customers pay monthly to be hosted. The objection is that CompanyCam never offers the option to buy.
Run your own numbers
Five years of spendAt 6 people, the monthly bill is $216 a month. Buying pays for itself in 23 months, and over five years you keep $7,960.
CompanyCam Crew plan as published: $129/mo for 3 seats, then $29 per person. Verified 2026-09-06. Above 50 people they quote Enterprise individually, so this stops there rather than guessing.
Where the two differ
How you pay
CompanyCam
A base tier plus $29 per extra seat, every month, forever. The bill grows every time you hire, and buying outright is never offered.
HomeService.Photos
Buy once for $5,000 on your hardware or $3,500 in your cloud, or pay $99 a month hosted. Unlimited users on every plan, so hiring never moves the price.
Which features you get
CompanyCam
Features are split across tiers. Checklists, reports, task assignment, live map and client access start at Crew; unlimited templates, room measurement, signatures and auto-translation start at Scale.
HomeService.Photos
Every feature comes on every plan. Checklists, branded PDF reports, expiring share links, the hooks into your other programs. There is no higher tier to be upsold into, because there is only one tier.
Where your photos live
CompanyCam
On CompanyCam's cloud, alongside every other customer, for as long as you keep paying.
HomeService.Photos
Single tenant: your own server holding nobody else's photos. On the outright plans it's hardware you own or your own cloud account. That also means owning a server is your responsibility. Backups and updates are on you, or on us if you're hosted.
Integrations
CompanyCam
A real integrations ecosystem connected to the tools contractors already run. This is a genuine strength.
HomeService.Photos
It can tell your other programs the moment something happens, and there are 56 commands another program can use to read and write your data. That is enough for whoever handles your computers, or an AI tool, to wire up most things. But there is no app store, no ready-made connector, and we have not tested any specific product.
AI and extras
CompanyCam
Voice-driven checklists, instant translation and project recaps, plus a marketing add-on covering social content, reviews and Google Business Profile at $99 a month (shown discounted to $79).
HomeService.Photos
None of that. No AI voice features, no built-in translation, no marketing add-on. If those tools are earning their keep for you, that's a real reason to stay.
Support and size
CompanyCam
Established and widely used, with a large customer base, public case studies, mature mobile apps, offline mode, and an Enterprise tier with SSO, a dedicated success manager and white-glove implementation.
HomeService.Photos
Much smaller and newer. No public case studies, no published customer list, no 24/7 support organisation and no dedicated success manager. You get the people who built it, and that's the whole team.
Compliance
CompanyCam
A large organisation with enterprise customers and the procurement process that comes with them.
HomeService.Photos
No SOC 2, no HIPAA, no ISO certification, no third-party security audit. Single-tenant servers are a genuine security posture, but if a customer or insurer demands a certificate, we can't show you one.
Who should switch
- Crews that are hiring. If you're growing past ten or twenty people, the per-seat math stops being annoying and starts being a line item. That is $767 a month at twenty-five people, and it does not stop there.
- Anyone paying for a higher tier just to get one feature. Checklists, reports and share links are in every plan we sell, including the $5,000 one-time one.
- Owners who want to own their tools. Your photos on your hardware or in your cloud account, no monthly fee for the software itself, nothing that stops working if you stop paying.
- Companies with someone comfortable running a server. Or ones that already have a cloud account and want the software deployed into it.
- Contractors who need the job photographed and turned into a report, and who have never touched the AI extras they're paying for.
- Owners who look at "your own server" and feel tired. Pay $99 a month, we run it, you still get unlimited users, and you can move to owning it outright later.
Who should not switch
- Anyone whose customers or insurers require certified compliance. We hold no SOC 2, HIPAA or ISO certification and have had no third-party security audit. If that paperwork is a requirement, ask CompanyCam what they hold. They are the better choice for you.
- Anyone whose day depends on this software already talking to their other programs. CompanyCam has ready-made connections to the tools contractors run; ours has to be set up, and we have not tested it against any specific one. If your accounting or scheduling has to stay in step automatically, stay where you are.
- Companies that rely on the AI features. Voice-driven checklists, instant translation and project recaps don't exist here, and neither does the marketing add-on. CompanyCam is the better choice if those are part of your day.
- Companies that want enterprise support: SSO, a dedicated success manager, white-glove setup, a 24/7 support line. CompanyCam has all of it. We have none of it.
What moving actually involves
No magic importer, and we won't pretend otherwise. Your photos come out of CompanyCam as files and get loaded onto your server, where they're re-filed to jobs as you start shooting. Checklists and report templates get rebuilt. They're fast to set up, but they don't transfer themselves. If you have somebody who handles your computers, the boring parts can be automated. One thing about us you should know up front. There is no one-click download-everything button in the app. Getting your data out runs through a command instead. It is tested, but it is a command, not a button. Plan on running both side by side for a week or two while active jobs finish up. Most crews are fully moved inside a month.
The short version
CompanyCam is established and genuinely good. The integrations, the AI features and the enterprise support are real. What it will not do is let you stop paying. The seats and the tiers run as long as you do. If the per-seat bill or the upgrade gates are what brought you here, HomeService.Photos is $5,000 once on your own hardware, $3,500 once in your own cloud, or $99 a month hosted. Unlimited users, every feature, your own server. Bring us one real job and we'll run it through on a call.
