Privacy policy

The short version

• I don't sell your information, trade it, or give it to advertisers.
• There are no advertising or tracking cookies and no third-party analytics.
• A trial account, and everything uploaded to it, is deleted 14 days after the trial ends.

The contact form

When you send the contact form I get what you type into it: your name, company, email address, phone number, crew size, how you would like to run the software, and your message. It also records the page you came from, the time, and your IP address, which is used to stop one address sending dozens of messages.

The message is stored on the website's host and emailed to me. It does not put you on any mailing list. I keep it until you ask me to delete it.

Trade email signups

The trade pages let you sign up for a short series of emails about photographing that trade's jobs. Signing up records your email address, the trade, the page you signed up on, the time, and your IP address, which is used to limit signups.

Nothing is sent until you click the link in the confirmation email. If you never click it, the signup is deleted after 7 days. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and the one-click unsubscribe button in mail programs such as Gmail works too. After you unsubscribe nothing more is sent; I keep a note that you unsubscribed so it stays that way.

Page counts

Each public page on homeservice.photos sends one small request to /mail/hit.php so I can see which pages get read. It stores the page, the day, the name of the website that linked you here (such as google.com), and the words you searched for when a search engine passes them along.

It stores no IP address, sets no cookie and gives you no ID, so a count cannot be tied to you. Browsers set to Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control are not counted at all.

Trial accounts

You're uploading to my server, not yours. Take from that what you will.

A trial stores:

• your company name, your name, your email address and your password, kept only as a hash (a scrambled form that cannot be turned back into the password), and the same for any crew accounts you add;
• the jobs you create, with their names, addresses, contacts and notes;
• the photos, videos and documents you upload, including the time and GPS location stored in them or recorded by your phone when the photo was taken;
• tags, comments, checklists, reports and share links, and a record of who changed what and when;
• for each signed-in browser or phone, its name (such as "Chrome on Android"), a random device ID and the last IP address it used;
• the IP address you signed up from (for IPv6, just its network part), used to limit how many trials one place can start.

All of it lives on a server I pay for at Hetzner, a hosting company. Your uploaded files are not backed up there, so keep your own copies of anything that matters. I only look at a trial to fix a problem or when you ask me for help. A share link you create lets anyone who has it view that album until the link expires, and no later than the end of your trial.

When you sign up I get an email with your name, email address and company name, and it is stored with the contact form messages. If you use Forgot password, the reset email is sent through this website's email system, which logs the address and the time it was sent.

A trial can be changed for 14 days, then stays view-only for 14 more. After that the account and everything in it, the records and every uploaded file, are deleted. A trial nobody has used in its first three days is ended early. Database copies made before software updates are kept separately and can still hold account and job records after that, but never the uploaded files. If you want your trial gone sooner, email me and I will delete it.

Maps and addresses

When you type a job address, it is sent to OpenStreetMap's Nominatim service to find it on the map, and map screens load their map images from OpenStreetMap. OpenStreetMap receives those requests, including your IP address for the ones your browser makes. Their policy is at osmfoundation.org.

In your browser

Signing in keeps your session in your browser's local storage so you stay signed in, along with a random device ID and a few settings such as the colour theme and the last job you used. The app also saves its own files so it opens quickly. Signing out ends the session.

Server logs

Like almost every website, the servers behind this site and the trial keep ordinary request logs: IP address, time, the address requested and the browser type. They are used to keep things running and to deal with abuse.

Who else is involved

Only the companies that host things: Namecheap for this website and its email, Hetzner for the trial server, and OpenStreetMap for maps and address lookups. I would hand information to anyone else only if the law required it.

Email andrew@homeservice.photos to find out what I hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted. The site and the trial are for businesses and are not meant for children under 13.
